Susan trained under one of the most respected voice teachers in New York, Joan Lader.  Ms. Lader’s students include many leading names in the Broadway, pop and opera world such as Patti LuPone, Kristen Chenowith, Sutton Foster, Frederica Von Stade, and Roberta Flack..

Susan’s extensive training is ongoing as she continues her studies in New York. She studied acting under Ed Morehouse, Michael Howard and Mary Doyle.

Besides teaching voice in her home studio, Susan was previously a member of the faculty of Southport Studio Theatre where she taught students improvisation, monologue, scene work and how to act the song.

In her home studio, Susan addresses each student’s individual needs.

While the main goal is to provide a solid vocal technique using the respiratory, vibratory and resonating systems, she works with each individual to preserve and strengthen what is already present.

With all of her students, she emphasizes the importance of healthy singing habits while keeping the process of learning and performing a fun and fulfilling experience.

For her younger students in particular, the advantage of developing healthy skills from the outset provides a solid foundation.

In addition to her knowledge of vocal technique, Susan can assist in choosing and preparing appropriate audition material. With her 25 years of performing experience and training, she is able to nurture the student in how to present a song in an audition or performance.
